Pineapple and Awobo football teams have proceeded into the next stage of the 2025 Adeboruwa Cup, a tournament which is usually part of the annual Igbogbo Day Celebration. The two teams edged out Selewu and Ijaolu on Friday.
While Pineapple beat Selewu 1 – 0, Awobo defeated Ijaolu 5 – 4 on penalties after playing goalless at the regulation time.
Both games were keenly fought because of what was at stake, unfortunately for the losing teams, it was the end of their campaign for this year’s edition as their defeat implies their exit from the tournament.
A player with the Selewu team poured out the team’s frustration and disappointment at their inability to convert several chances: “We couldn’t score any goal for the day, it’s such a frustrating and bad day for Selewu.”
On the other hand, Pineapple’s player, Ademisala Adeola, who gave his team the lone goal in the match, was ecstatic.
“I’m so happy and excited because without that chance, I don’t know what would have happened in penalties. I’m so glad we used the chance well today.”
